Operation Backpack began several years ago in cooperation with Nelson Elementary School on Country Club Road, to assist in providing food to some of the under-served children in our community. Over time it has blossomed into a much larger ministry than we first started with, now serving nearly twice as many children than at its conception.
Through donations by church members and non-members as well, we are able to pack bags containing snacks and simple food items that can easily be prepared by children to aid in providing nutrition for some of the children who have little to no food from they time they leave school on Friday until they return on Monday. These bags are then passed out to the most needy children at the discretion of the school, regardless of their race or gender.
